Electrical Engineering Manager 

Demonstrating drive, motivation and enthusiasm, you will successfully manage and engineer unique and challenging projects with your team. As our ideal candidate, you will have a relevant degree with 8-10 years of engineering experience in a consulting firm, specializing in Electrical Distribution, Lighting, Fire Alarm and Life Safety Systems and Low Voltage Systems including: Communication, Security and AV Systems.  Ideally, your experience should be with the design and engineering of electrical building systems for commercial, healthcare, multi-residential, industrial and institutional facilities. 

A P.Eng. designation in the province of Ontario, at minimum, is required.  A PMP and/or LEED designations would be considered assets.

Responsibilities:

  • Accepting projects, proposals and assignments from VPs;
  • Assigning projects, proposals and assignments to Project Engineers/Project Managers/Designers;
  • Working with Proposal team on client presentations that you would be required to deliver to various stakeholders;
  • Review overall concept of projects/assignments prepared by their direct reports;
  • Project stamping duties;
  • Coordinate with VPs for resource sharing;
  • Provide Prime Consultant Duties to coordinate with various stakeholders and Project Managers,
  • Manage and oversee the team and work of various subcontractors and sub-consultants as required;
  • Overall Delivery & Success of their projects;
  • Mentoring, training, development and performance management of at least 5 direct reports
  • Assist with new Business Development;
  • Prepare Fee Proposals;
  • Review project financials with direct reports;
  • Review of Time Sheets, Expenses, vacation requests, etc. for their direct reports;
  • Work with Project Engineers, Project Managers to prepare the conceptual design plan;
  • Share knowledge of relevant building codes and standards with various stakeholders;
  • Oversee the quality control process for electrical projects;
  • Review and oversee the preparation of technical reports and specifications;
  • Any other tasks that may be assigned from time to time;

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics 

  • Passion and experience in leading, motivating and developing teams;
  • Strong stakeholder relationship skills for work with sub-consultants, sub-contractors, clients and team-members;
  • A desire to learn and continually develop your professional skills;
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including presentation skills;
  • Acute organizational and time management skills to meet multiple deadlines at any given time;
  • Must be knowledgeable of both AutoCAD and Revit standards applicable to electrical design;
  • Familiar with design and calculation lighting software (AGi32 or similar);
  • Strong knowledge of the Ontario Building Code; Canadian Electrical Code/Ontario Electrical Safety Code; fire alarm and life safety codes; power distribution design;
  • Fluent in the processing of ESA Plan Approval submissions and consultations
  • Extensive experience and understanding of the following:
    • designing power distribution layouts and electrical equipment sizing;
    • calculating electrical systems loads;
    • preparing electrical panel schedules and applying appropriate diversity factors;
    • designing single line diagrams;
    • designing lighting layouts and lighting photometric calculations;
    • designing fire alarm and life safety layouts;
    • designing communications, security, audio visual and other specialized electrical systems;
    • submitting new hydro utility service connection;
    • preparing technical electrical specifications;
    • preparing technical reports (feasibility studies, life cycle analyses, condition assessments etc.)
    • designing UPS/inverter and/or mission critical electrical systems;
    • designing and sizing emergency generator and associated distribution;
    • reviewing and interpreting short circuit, coordination and arc flash studies;
    • reviewing and interpreting power quality metering reports;
    • performing site investigations and field reviews;
    • attending site meetings and liaising with clients/contractors;
    • construction administration

Background Requirements

  • Must be eligible to work in Canada;
  • Professional Engineering designation, P.Eng. in the field of Electrical Engineering;
  • An accredited Bachelors degree in the field of Electrical Engineering or similar;
  • Minimum 8-10 years of electrical building services experience within the consulting engineering industry;
  • Minimum 5 years of Project Management experience;
  • A PMP and LEED designations are considered strong assets;
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle on a regular basis
