Electrical Designer (EIT)

Demonstrating drive, motivation and enthusiasm, you will successfully conduct and engineer unique and challenging projects. As our ideal candidate, you will have a relevant degree with 2-4 years of experience as a Electrical Designer in the fields of Electrical Distribution, Lighting, Fire Alarm and Life Safety systems and Low Voltage Systems including: Communication, Security and AV Systems.  Ideally, your experience should be with the design and engineering of electrical building systems for commercial, healthcare, multi-residential, industrial and institutional facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing CAD drawings using AutoCAD and BIM using Revit
  • Organizing and maintaining a design and CAD/BIM digital file database for each project
  • Successfully carrying out design/project assignments as directed
  • Performing site investigations and field reviews
  • Attending site meetings and liaising with clients/contractors
  • Preparing detailed design of conceptual plan provided by the Engineer
  • In some instances, preparation of the conceptual plan
  • Review and application of knowledge of relevant building codes and standards
  • Review and/or preparation of power distribution layout and electrical equipment sizing
  • Review and/or preparation of electrical system loads, electrical panel schedules, single line diagrams
  • Review and/or preparations of lighting layouts and lighting photometric calculations
  • Review and/or preparation of fire alarm layouts
  • Review and/or coordination of communications, security, audio visual and other specialized electrical systems
  • Preparing technical reports and specifications
  • Any other tasks that my be assigned from time to time
  • Work to be supervised by an Electrical Engineer

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

  • Current in-depth knowledge of Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, Canadian Electrical Code/Ontario Electrical Safety Code and CSA standards
  • Demonstrated experience in:
    • power distribution layouts
    • calculating electrical system loads, electrical panel schedules and single line diagrams
    • designing lighting layouts and lighting photometric calculations
    • designing fire alarm and life safety layouts
    • designing communications, security, audio visual and other specialized electrical systems
    • submitting new Hydro Service Connection
    • designing UPS/inverter and/or mission critical electrical systems
    • preparing technical electrical specifications
    • preparing technical reports (feasibility studies, life cycle analyses, condition assessments etc)
  • Working knowledge in processing ESA Plan Approval Submissions
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite, AutoCAD and/or Revit software
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in an ambiguous and rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to set high personal goals and work independently
  • Ability to organize, multi-task and prioritize tasks
  • Ability to make recommendation to effectively resolve problems or issues
  • Having skills reviewing and interpreting short circuit, coordination and arc flash studies is considered an asset.

Background Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of Electrical Engineering
  • working towards P. Eng. from PEO
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in an electrical design role
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle on a regular basis
